Featured Car/Driver of the Week
Dean Sapp is a name many autocrossers know -- with multiple National Championships under his belt, he is also a person many look up to in the DC area. After being edged out of the GS title at the 1996 Championships by less than a tenth, Dean switched from the V6 Camaro owned by Jeff Fields to the V10 Viper of David Hill. For the first time in almost ten years, Dean found himself in the position of having to fight for trophies, especially in the indexed ISP ProSolo2 class. While this frustrates him at times, he still maintains a positive attitude because, as he puts it, "Autocrossing is 90% mental." Accused of being a "ringer" for trophies and being envied by many a rookie Dean feels that too many autocross newcomers are intimidated by those who do well, even though those "ringers" are more often than not ready to share their experiences and try to help those new to the sport. Dean himself is very willing to dispense valuable information and share rides in the Viper in order to make newcomers feel welcome and to help rookies get faster.
